Reports show that Xinjiang plans to put 7.50 million mu (1 hectare=15 mu) under cotton cultivation in 2007, and lint output is expected to reach 1.1 million tons.
At the recently concluded meeting, local authorities demanded that the construction army (Corps) focus on the works of macro-control and the overall balance. Production of fertilizer, plastic sheeting and other important commodities, should be carried out, so as to build a sound agricultural supplies chain network.
It is reported that during the course of cotton cultivation and planting, the Corps has extensively applied precision agriculture technologies, such as planting by seed, irrigation by droplet, fertilization by gram.
It is for this reason, the cotton yield of the Corps has been listed the first in China since 2003, enabling the Corps to achieve one-sixth of the country’s cotton production by using only 9 percent cotton areas of the total cotton acreage in the country.
