For first nine months of 2006, China's textile and clothing export stood at US $107.775 billion, a hike of 24.15 percent over same period last year.

However, textile industry has to face difficulty in growth of export turnover.

Recently, EU carried an investigation on Chinese linen for dumping charges. EU also restricted use of Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) in products exported from China. This will be new barrier for textile industry as PFOS is widely used in all kinds of products.

Even production cost of textile and clothing industry is gradually increasing.

In 2006, production cost of textile industry went up by 22.73 percent because of insufficient energy sources, problems of labour force, land and other factors.

Similarly, lack of attention given to international standards like ISO14000, SA8000 is adding to the problem of development.
