China's Textile & apparel export to US earned $16.34 bn by Aug

According to the US Customs statistics, the US imported $16.349 billion of textiles and apparel from China in January-August, 2006, representing an increase of 6.2 percent from the same period of last year, accounting for 26.86 percent of the total textiles and apparel imports, making it the top supplier.

Apparel import from China attained $10.794 billion, up 0.81 percent from the previous year, accounting for 23.28 percent of the total amount of the US textile and apparel import, taking the first place.

Import quantity was 3.797 billion square meters, down 6.76 percent from last year, seizing the top.

Textile import from China obtained $5.555 billion, a rise of 18.50 percent from the corresponding period in 2005, accounting for 38.32 percent of the total textile import amount by the US.

Import quantity reached 7.950 billion square meters, 12.50 percent above last year, ranking the first.
