China is not able to meet its cotton demand as country has limited land and water resources, which are main hurdles to raise cotton output.

According to some industrial experts, if such trends continue till 2010, country has to import half of its cotton consumption.

At present 45 percent of country’s cotton consumption fulfilled through imports, informed Zhou Shengtao, President of the China Cotton Association.

Consumption of cotton raised 15.1 percent from 2000 to 2005 against the output gained only by 5.3 percent.

Yarn production is growing at 7.5 percent which will ultimately raise cotton demand as high as 14 million tons by 2010, informed China Textile Industrial Association.
