HK textiles industry exports up 64.5% in Q1

Wearing-apparel industry domestic exports registered a rise of 68.5 percent in value, to 6.9 billion HK dollars (884.6 million U.S. dollars), while textiles industry exports rose 64.5 percent to 7.5 billion HK dollars (961.5 million U.S. dollars), and machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components industry exports rose 1.5 percent to 4.2 billion HK dollars (538.5 million U.S. dollars) in the first quarter, the Census & Statistics Department said Thursday.
The value of domestic exports of consumer electrical and electronic products surged 89.8 percent, to 6.4 billion HK dollars (820.5 million U.S. dollars), over a year earlier.
The value of these four major industries together accounted for 76 percent of Hong Kong's total domestic exports, the department said.
As for other manufacturing industries, the value of chemicals and chemical products domestic exports rose 18.8 percent, to 2 billion HK dollars (256.4 million U.S. dollars), over a year earlier.
