China will distribute the quotas for textile export to the US and European Union by both official allocation and open bidding this year, with 30% of the quotas for the former, and 70% for the latter.
However, some textile manufacturers are still unsatisfied with the current distribution approach and call on the government to fully put the quotas for bidding, especially foreign-invested and privately-owned companies, citing the quotas they get are too few to meet the demands. China is the sole country in the world still subject to quotas for textile export due to restrictions imposed by EU and US. Presently, the textile export is not so optimistic.
In the January-February period, China’s export of textiles and garments increased by 15. 3%, while export to the US declined 2% and to the EU merely inched up 2%. At the same time, the prices of textiles export to the US soared by 15% and to the EU by 28%.
