China is the biggest manufacturer and exporter of hand-woven carpets. According to the statistics collected by United Nations Statistics Division in 2005, the global hand-woven carpet export in 2004 was US$3.05 billion dollars and China carpet export was US$ 630 million, accounting for 20.6% of the total export. In recent three years, China carpet export develops rapidly, with annual growth rate above 20%. In the year of 2005, China hand-woven carpets export reached US$770 million, with the products distributed to 180 countries and regions.

The major companies introduce ISO9001:2000 quality management system, set up quality center and strictly control the quality of hand-woven carpets. These companies also focus on technology R & D and innovation. Some of them own independent pattern design studio and some have set up research R & D and training center.

Hand-woven carpets are labor intensive products, becoming the important industry for poverty alleviation and employment.
