Polyester Prices Reverse Recent Downtrend

The polyester chain gained strength in the week of 22 June after recent lull. Paraxylene prices increased in Asia and Europe partially recovering the previous week’s loss. Ethylene prices remained steady after the decline a week ago. Prices in USA were seen dropping a bit.

Paraxylene was traded at US$1,170-1,175 a ton CFR South East Asia, up US$25-30 a ton. In China, the mainstream prices were up US$25-30 from previous week’s close. Ethylene was at US$1,030-1,040 a ton North East CFR, rolling over previous week numbers. The US Gulf physical FD values were quoted at 39.50-40.00 cents per pound as against 40.00-40.25 cents per pound a week ago PTA prices inched up by US$5 and was traded in the range of US$940-945 a ton FOB Korea/Taiwan. MEG prices were and were pegged in the range of US$940-945 a ton in Korea and Taiwan. PET chips prices rolled over previous week’s numbers while super bright chip prices were seen moving up in China. Polyester filament yarn prices were stable while DTY prices were seen inching up in Pakistan. Polyester staple fibre prices reversed the declining trend in China.
