Zhouquan is the Industrial Power of Tongxiang City, covering an area of 73.36 sq. kilos and having a population of 70 thousand. The town has about 400 industrial manufacturers and employs over 30 thousand workers. In 2003, the town’s GDP topped 2 billion RMB Yuan, and industrial gross output 10.5 billion RMB Yuan. Chemical fiber plays a major role in the town's economy. The production in 2003 was around 1 million tons, 47% up against the year before. Sales volume in the same year was 800 billion RMB Yuan, increased by 40% year-on-year and accounting for 75% of the town’s total.

Since the establishment of the first specialized chemical filament manufacturer in 1981, Zhouquan has witnessed the 20 years'growth of this Chemical Fiber Town. By the end of 2003, the town has 23 chemical fiber manufacturers, employing 11,000 workers and 1,350 managers and technicians, of that 125 ones have the senior technical titles, 525 the secondary and 700 the preliminary. The town has set up 3 R&D centers. Now the town's chemical fiber industry has 916 high-speed spinning machines, 302 conventional spinning machines and 216 imported FDY spinning machines with the total year spinning capacity of 650 thousand tons, 2 melt-spinning lines with the year capacity of 360 thousand tons, 146 draw texturizing machines including 20 imported 33H ones and 183 draw-off machines with the total year processing capacity of 550 thousand tons, 3 cationic chipping lines with the year capacity of 180 thousand tons. The gross production capacity of the town’s major chemical fibers reaches 1.2 million tons.
