MOFCOM to Continue Its Support to Central China's Development

Central China Business Summit 2007 of Expo Central China was held in Zhengzhou on April 26. Wu Yi, Vice Premier of State Council was present at the Summit and delivered a significant speech. Singapore Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Zeng Yinquan, Chief Executive of Macao He Houhua, Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai, ROK Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Kim Young-joo, Governors of the six central provinces and well-known scholars delivered speeches as well.

Bo Xilai expressed that according to central China growth strategy implementing by CPC central committee and the request of promoting coordinative development in regional economy, the Ministry of Commerce continued specific measures on supporting the growth. Central China had numerous industries and favorable infrastructure facility, at the mean time high schools, talents and broad market lay there. In order to support fastening development, the ministry would set up bases for undertaking gradient transfer of processing trade in central cities like Nancheng, Ganzhou, Chenzhou and so on, set up 100 projects for large agricultural product distribution enterprises in central China and 200 projects for agricultural whole sale market development, as well as train 6000 talents for commercial information service and 50,000 technical workers to meet the need of the market.

Bo met foreign guests who were here for the Expo and showed warmly welcome to them. Bo said that it was a key position that central China took in China’s economic development. As the implementation of central China growth strategy, more predominant investment environment would be provided. With the aim of showing unique predominance and great potential of central China through the expo to the world, MOFCOM, other relevant ministries and central provinces’ governments jointly held the Expo. As a result, foreign guests were hoped to collect information, make friends and grasp the business opportunities in the Expo.

The guests highly appraised this Expo and expressed that trade and economic cooperation with central China would be benefited through deepened understanding gained in the Expo.

In the meeting Bo was also invited to make a briefing on relevant policies made by Chinese government for the growth in central China.
