It is reprted from LAHORE that Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Thursday that new economic and trade opportunities between China and Pakistan were opening up and bilateral cooperation in information technology, industry, agriculture research, power generation, textile, electronics and chemicals had increased.
He told a 34-member delegation of government officials and investors from Ningxia Hui, China, that the interest shown by the Chinese in the Punjab government’s industrial projects had resulted in an increase in Chinese investment in the province.
The senior adviser of Haijuzeng, Chinese province, led the delegation.
He said Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Germany and other countries were also investing in the Punjab because of which new industries were being set up in the province and jobs were being created. He said the government was paying attention to protecting and promoting foreign investment in the province and that the confidence of foreign entrepreneurs had improved.
He said the government was setting up a centre in Lahore to teach the Chinese language and that the government would also provide scholarships to students who wanted to study Chinese. He said visits by representatives of the chambers of commerce in the Punjab and Ningxia Hui provinces as well as cultural delegations would be arranged.
