Statistics released by China Customs showed that the total import & export of textile and apparel reached $ 165.136 billion in 2006, increasing by 22.66 per cent year on year and taking up 9.38 per cent of the total China's total foreign trade import & export. The trade surplus of textile and apparel was 129.034 billion dollars.

Official statistics showed that the total import of textile and apparel reached $ 18.051 billion in 2006, in which the import of textile was $ 16.354 billion, expanding 5.58 and the import of apparel was $ 1.697 billion, up by 5.50 per cent year-on-year.

The statistics said that the total export of textile and apparel reached $ 147.085 billion in 2006, in which the export of textile was $ 52.25 billion, expanding 18.84 and the export of apparel was $ 94.83 billion, up by 28.91 per cent year-on-year.

Among China's main import countries and areas of textile and apparel, Japan, Taiwan China and Korea became top three. In 2006, China's import from the above countries and regions is as follows respectively: $ 3.302 billion from Japan down by 1.77 per cent, $ 3.236 billion from Taiwan China up by 0.77 per cent, $ 2.575 billion from Korea down by 2.12 per cent.

Among the main export countries and areas of textile and apparel in 2006, USA was the top one, Japan and Hong Kong PR China became the top two and three. In 2006, China export to USA reached 23.126 billion dollars, increasing 18.14% compared with the same period of last year. China export to Japan reached 19.524 billion dollars, increasing 7.85 % compared with the same period of last year and the export to Hong Kong PR China 17.989 billion dollars, increasing 21.19 % compared with the same period of last year. In that year, China's export of textile and apparel to the above three was $ 60.639 billion taking up 41.23 % of the total export of textile and apparel. And the export of textile and apparel to EU was $ 22.952 billion, increasing 21.68 % compared with the same period of last year.
