Looking at consolidated data, Chinese exports of textiles and apparel, in aggregate, (all fibres) rose significantly in value terms during the ten month period ending October 2006, and similarly during the month of October, year-on-year.

In tune with this positive trend, China’s exports of wool apparel and textiles rose strongly during the month of October, in volume and value terms, according to statistics released by the Chinese Customs Bureau.

This strength of exports during the month highlights the rush by Chinese textile manufactures to ship their goods prior to the reduction in the export rebate on their products in December - trying to avoid the squeeze on manufacturer’s profit margins.

The value of China’s wool product exports to Japan, USA, South Korea, Germany, UK and Italy rose strongly during the month of October. On the other hand, wool product exports to key destination, Hong Kong and Macau (ranked in seventh position), declined.

There have also been some significant gains reported for woolen yarn and textiles exports in both volume and value terms.
