Cotton Demand in China Soars in Dec

Spinning volume recovered, and growth rate sped up. In December 2006, the spinning capacity of above-scale enterprises in China was 1.686 million tons, increased 116,000 tons over last month, up 7.4 percent, and 20.6 percent higher from a year earlier.

In 2006, China's total spinning volume amounted 17.22 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.9 percent. In 2006 cotton year (September-December 2006), accumulated spinning volume marked 6.37 million tons.

Based on 62 percent of cotton usage proportion and 1.06 cotton consumption, the national cotton consumption was 4.19 million tons, an increase of 22 percent over the same period last year.

China's exports of textile and garment rebounded, annual exports increased one-fourth, according to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs.

In December 2006, textile and apparel exports amounted about US $13.354 billion, an increase of 4.75 percent over last month, a year-on-year increase of 30.72 percent.

Exports of textile yarn, fabrics and products were $4.44 billion, indicating a same period increase of 23.71 percent. Exports of clothing and clothing accessories stood at $8.913 billion, a same period increase of 34.52 percent.

In the whole year of 2006, country’s total textile and apparel exports amounted about $143.993 billion, an increase of 25.2 percent over last year.

Textile yarn, fabrics and products exported $488.1 billion, a same period increase of 18.66 percent. Exports of clothing and clothing accessories marked $95.192 billion, a same time increase of 28.85 percent.
