According to US Department of Commerce, US imported 34.65 billion Square Meters of textiles & Clothing under MFA from Jan. to Aug. 2006, rising by 2.73% year-on-year, while the value of import reached USD 60.86 billion, up 2.68%.
US import from NAFTA fell by 12.79%, but import from some Asian countries like Bangladesh, has increased a lot. Bangladesh has been the eighth biggest textiles and clothing supplier to the US. From Jan. to Aug 2006, US import from Bangladesh rose by 13.53%, accounting for 2.86% of US total import of textiles and clothing.
