China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export Textiles (CCCT) said on July 11 that USA tended to start an antidumping investigation on Chinese polyester short fibers. This will be the first conflict in the trade of textiles after the signing of Memorandum of Understanding About Trade of Textiles and Clothing last November. The Chinese are working hard to solve this problem.
According to State Statistics Bureau, the antidumping has not affected the export of Chinese textiles, which has grown 20.8% between January and April from the same period of last year.
CCCT said that though the US Department of Commerce had not issued an official declaration on the antidumping investigation on Chinese polyester short fibers, it would only be a matter of time, as US International Trade Commission had announced so. CCCT is currently busy preparing for the lawsuit that might come soon afterwards.
Polyester short fibers are mainly used to fill sleeping bags, mattresses and ski suits. The time period of the antidumping investigation is dated from October 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006. More than 300 enterprises were involved, and nearly thirty have decided to respond to the suit.
