Intertextile Beijing Apparel Fabrics — one of Northern China’s largest professional textile trade events with eight domestic halls, three international halls in addition to an accessories hall — opened for three days at the China International Exhibition Centre from 29 March 2009. The fair successfully attracted over 24,000 visitors and featured 1,000 suppliers from 14 countries and regions including special pavilions from Korea, Italy, Germany and Taiwan on 48,000 sqm of exhibition space. Halls were consistently crowded for the first two days of the fair and attendance held strong against a backdrop of economic gloom. Exhibitors on the fair were pleasantly surprised with the high turnout of quality buyers attending the spring fair. “The fair has been great! Professional buyers have been coming through and looking at our exclusive menswear collections,” said Mr Gordon Mackay, Managing Director for HFW Martin Sons & Co., England. Ms Gul Sen, a representative for first time Turkish exhibitor Gulcemal Tekstil, was also thrilled with the company’s decision to participate at the Beijing fair. “Now is the time to enter the Chinese market and so far it has been wonderful for us. The fair has by far exceeded our expectations and we hope to return next year.” Increases in buyers from Asia were recorded as many international brands sent representatives from local buying offices to cut costs, including countries and regions: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. Increase in visitor participation from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Poland and Syria were also recorded on the fair. Luxury Italian fabric producers, Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti Asia Pacific Ltd., were equally impressed with the range of visitors attending this season’s event, and noted the buying trends on the fair. “The buyers that we have met with are now looking for fine wools and cashmeres; their tastes are becoming more high-end and refined,” commented Mr Carlo Anceschi, Sales Manager for the Italian brand based in Hong Kong. Mr Li Pengyi, representative for Alpha Fabric Co Ltd, Korea, shared Mr Anceschi’s sentiments. “Most of the buyers who have come to our booth are looking for higher quality products. Although the ordering quantity might be lower, Chinese buyers are now sourcing a diverse range of fabrics and we are very pleased with the business on the fair.” The domestic halls were also busy with a flow of professional attendees. This year a bulk of the Chinese exhibitors were divided into product groups including suitings, casual wear, shirtings, jeanswear, functional/ sportswear and ladieswear. “The organisers have attracted many more buyers than we expected. In fact, there seems to be more fabric designers compared to last year,” said Mr You Ren He, Managing Director for Dong Guan Ming Sang Button Manufactory Ltd. Mr You also commented on the buying trends of domestic visitors: “Buyers are looking for quality fabrics with good design, which is a more important factor when buying now. This reflects the evolving Chinese textile industry and indicates that the purchasing power of Chinese consumers are growing stronger.” | |||||
