Russian cotton fabric output reached 164 millions square meters in January 2007, which reflected the normal seasonal slowdown from December 2006 but still showed year-on-year growth of 6.5 percent.  In 2006, cotton fabric output fell 1.1 percent, so it is not yet clear if this improvement in 2007 represents anything more than a one-month expansion.  Russia's textile sector has received little benefit from the country's strengthening economy, because it has not stimulated any growth in domestic apparel output, with most apparel demand being met with imports.
